Flash Mob at Orchard

There will be a flash mob later at Orchard. I just received news of it on Facebook. It is perfect for those who wants to have pillow fights. Remember to bring pillows for it. Please refer to the Facebook event page for more information.

P.S. I am falling sick. It is probable that I will not be there.

[Facebook Video] ORD Song to Taylor Swift’s Love Story

It is here! Not really. I still have 10 more days to ORD. Back to the topic, there is this guy who uploaded a video on Facebook singing about his joy of ORD-ing and getting his pink IC back. His singing is off, but it is just amusing. Enjoy. Oh, by the way, if the video is down, do tell me in the comments. There is no point having the post without the video.

Robertism? Nah. It is Schadenfreude!

Often when the name Hitler is mentioned, World War II comes to mind. When Ris Low is mentioned, Miss World Singapore2009 comes to mind. OK, not the event but the words like Boomz and Shingz come to mind. (By the way, Riz Low has a spread on this month’s FHM issue. Read it if you want to see her handwriting.)

Recently, a friend introduced to me a Facebook fanpage: Robertism. This is where I take an interest. My English name is Robert. And I do take offense at the use of the name.

What Is Robertism?

What Is Robertism?

Laugh at misfortune? Robert is a name with a positive meaning.

From Behind the Name:

From the Germanic name Hrodebert meaning “bright fame”, derived from the Germanic elements hrod “fame” and beraht “bright”.

Hey, there is already an English word for deriving pleasure from misfortunes. Not exactly English, since it is a loan word from German: Schadenfreude.

From Answers.com:

noun
Pleasure derived from others’ misfortunes.

Etymology
From German Schadenfreude, from Schaden (damage, harm) + Freude (joy)

If this is not enough, try Chinese:

幸灾乐祸

Use the right words! What if your name is used instead?

I will end this post off with two videos: Schadenfreude from Avenue Q and  幸灾乐祸 by Eason.

P.S. Oh ya, join the page if you guys want to. The link is there in the post. It is easy to find on Facebook anyway.
