Shodoku: Street of Japan – Hereen Outlet

I managed to eat at Shodoku: Street of Japan outlet at Hereen 3 days back. My superior treated me to lunch there, otherwise I would not be going there. It took over Marche premises and adopted the same concept of having a central ordering area. The concept does not work as well as Marche, in my opinion. There was a lack of variety of food as the theme is Japanese. At least Marche had a wider theme and thus more food to serve. The food is not bad, but the experience was horrible.

We order grilled salmon and cod. They served us just the fish. There was no offer of rice made by the staff when we first ordered and I had to go back and ask for the rice. The staff is from PRC and I think who did not go through a rigorous service training. Another colleague had to “self-service” his bowl of noodles and he complained why there is a service charge of 10% then?

When we exited the store, there was one cashier and a long queue. There are 3 counters and only one is opened. The cashier had to go over to the other POS machine to get change for someone ahead in the line. Whatever had happened to accountability? It was lunch time and the store should be expecting more customers than off-peak period. There should be at least 2 cashiers operating. And oh, it was hot in there. Who turned down the air-con in there?

Ratings:

Food: 7/10
Service: 3/10
Ambience: 4/10

I would rather head down to the Shodoku area in Jurong Point. At least there is a better service and ambience there.

Sinful weekend

Despite of going to East Coast Park for another 2-hour long non-stop cycling, I think I have put on weight instead of losing them again.

Saturday – Cousin’s 21st birthday. Burp! Cycling from the Kite Runners to halfway point of the Changi Coast Park Connector and back (app. 20KM again).

Sunday – My dad bought home some 来历不明 roast duck. Super yummy and sinful. Burp! No swimming today, because I decided to take a long nap. Thanks to fiefie and Jean for mentioning. :-?

Food – 新天地

For the past few week ends, I have been to this cafe for dinner cum supper with my family and cousins. It is off Balestier Road in a shophouse. The food they serve is rather nice and tasty. The decor is unique, given the fact that the walls are decorated with the owner’s son’s art work. The son is only a primary school student! Anyway, if you want some Chinese food, you can try that place. The website is linked here. I will try to post up some pictures if I remember to bring my camera the next time. >.<

Carnival: YJC CVD 2009 – Afterthoughts

I went back to YJC at 1pm. I was lazy to walked to school, so I took a bus there instead. I do have a concession to utilise. I met Wen Song at General Office, then Jeremy and Took Yao (did I spell correctly). I then realised that it will be a day of reunion. True to the words, I met many of old classmates and friends. There are even people I said hi to and replied the same way and the next line was, "I forgot your name liao, and how we met. "

We toured around the fun fair area and realised that the number of stalls seemed to have shrunk as compared to the previous years. The carnival used to extend towards the lab area, but this year, it was mostly confined to the assembly area and the canteen. There was also a lack of souvenirs to bring home too. Where are the test tubes which have names in them? Where are the little items that are amateurly done but yet still unique? I see stalls and stalls selling food and drinks, but I want my key chains and soft toys! Still, somehow it attracted plenty of people. I saw students from other JCs and secondary schools walking through the stalls and talking to their friends manning the stalls. I saw married teachers bringing their family to the carnival. Mr Phua’s baby daughter was brave among the "uncles" and "aunties". She did not cry when approached. But she is frowny!

The highlight of the day was the school’s Principal dunked. When she climbed the ladder to sit on the dunking machine, almost the entire population in the school went to the machine. Everyone was waiting for someone brave enough to dunk the Principal. After some tries, a guy from PJC managed to dunk her on his first try. So much for the fun! Hmph!

We (me, Wen Song, and part of 202) went to play Bingo after that. Mr Caleb Lee and VP Wong made a lost on this. Each of us gotten an average of 7 Soyjoy bars and 3 hampers of imported food each worth about $30.

It was a great day anyway.

Orgy Nights with Blue8118: Night 1

Despite the catchy title, it is not. Nathalia touched down in Singapore on Friday. Brennan tried to jio people on Plurk to go to the airport to see her coming. But apparently, it was only me and him. Brennan was comical at the airport. He was literally running to the arrival hall. I had to call out to him, “Brennan. Oi! Brennan! Stop!” Then to catch Nathalia’s attention, who was at the belt with full intent on getting her luggage, Brennan thumped at the glass panel and waved like a monkey. Unfortunately, all it got was a back turned at him.

We went to the Starbucks at Terminal 2 for a cup of coffee and chatted about celebrating Chinese New Year in both Singapore and Sabah. The celebrations in Singapore is really muted compared to hers. Me and Brennan ended up how we celebrate in the army. We chatted till 11 and decided to head to Nathalia’s place to put her stuff there.

Once reached, we decided to go for supper. There was no more transport home then anyway. We headed down to Geylang on a taxi. It was real fast with the new expressway and rather cheap too, despite the midnight charge. Brennan kept asking the taxi uncle which is the best frog porridge in the area in Chinese when he is a Malay. Eh???

But we didn’t try the frog porridge anyway. We had some Taiwan food instead.

nil nil nil nil nil

After the food, we went home. Nath took a cab home as she did not have a direct Night Rider service while me and Brennan took NR7 home.

Update: More on the night over here. Her title is more catchy! >.<
