Plurk 1: Microsoft 0

design_theft

Microsoft has suspended a new internet messaging service in China, after it emerged that the site was partially based on code stolen from a rival startup.

The site, Juku, launched in November is similar in concept to other online messaging systems like Twitter. But earlier this week the team behindPlurk, a young internet company based in Canada and popular with users across Asia, accused Microsoft of directly copying as much as 80% of the code to run the program.

Read the rest here.

OK. But what resolutions? I hope it is not an outright buy over. I certainly do not want to see advertisement banners on my Plurk profile nor advertisments in any other forms.

The post serves as an update to the previous post: {UPDATED} Plagiarism at its best: Microsoft China steals Plurk’s concept

Concentration needed

My lecturer just produced some frightening figures from last semester’s exam papers. Apparently, the four papers I am taking are among those with the lowest passing rate. Hence, it is time for me to drop my happy-go-lucky attitude from now on. My updates on the Net is increasingly rare and it will remain this way. I will have to drop Plurk, Facebook and Twitter for the time being. That means no more Facebook games, increase in Plurk karma or Klout.net’s Influence summary. Most of my time on the computer will be spent on more constructive sites.

Till 15 December! And oh, my ORD date is 14th December. What a busy Christmas month.

tweetboard is now live!

I just implemented tweetboard onto my blog, finally! I had an headache finding out how come the script did not work. I had to ask Amy to check if the board was woking last night. I even used different browsers to try to suss out the offending error. Eventually, I found that it is the Gigya Socialize widget that caused the problem. The Gigya Socialize plugin is still active though. It seems that the widget has to be re-coded by the programmer if the widget has to work with the tweetboard (Note to self: shoot a forum post to the developer of Gigya Socialize). Next problem is the flash overlapping the widget, time to get it solved! Edit: Done! I think. If you guys encounter any flash elements overlapping the tweetboard, drop a tweet!

Everyone can use their Twitter account to comment on my blog now! You can ask tweetboard for an invite too! Just tweet the following:

Wrapping up on #bthon

This is a continuation of the previous post: Hey to the peeps at #bthon. A really delayed post to boot.

I went back Tangs at about 12pm. The initial plan was just to collect the $50 voucher. But the plan derailed when I help @HillaryChan and @geekonomics to bring in their lunch. I bought ginseng chicken soup with rice from Lucky Plaza for both of them. It was deliberate, knowing that ginseng does aid in keeping people active. @geekonomics requested two cans of Red Bull too. Caffeine overload alert!

Anyway, I collected the $50 voucher from the ladies at the booth. To verify that I had retweeted the above message, I had to login to my account. The lady who verified it saw another tweet:

While at there, someone pulled me aside and asked on how to use Twitter. For a good 10 minutes, I became an unofficial ambassador of Twitter. After that, I went to see the various bloggers on ‘display’.

Here is @dk with his ‘sexy’ Michael Jackson pose. The sabo nature in me took the following and twitpic-ed it:

What an entertainer!

Joe Augustin is having some fun with the wooden hand that was placed on the table that HillaryChan and geekonomics were at.

18072009(009) The Kiehl boys went in and entertained the ladies in the main display section.

Back to the $50 dollars voucher, I used it to get a watch to replace my 5-year-old watch.

18072009(006)I bought the left piece. I have to thank those who helped me to select the piece: @HillaryChan, @geekonomics, @mkpadnama and @Honeymeow. Did I mentioned that I met Honeymeow there too? We were sharing about the confusion over her husband and I by others due to the similarity in our names.

The event ended at 6pm. I helped @HillaryChan and @geekonomics to pack their stuff up to their car. Honestly, I was not sure if @geekonomics could still drive home after the entire event. But since they are still alive and healthy up till now, I guess it is alright. :-P

The winners were announced about 30 minutes after. Congrats to @geekonomics and @nadnut for winning the laptops!

18072009(014)Pardon the quality. I was using my camera handphone.

The day did not end for me there. Later, I went on to watch Harry Potter on my own. This is for another time.
